Event: Re-Envisioning the Hospital Experience |

Phone: 888-688-3332
|
Description:
WEBINAR: Aside from being one of the largest energy consumers, hospitals can be some of the least healthy places to work and heal because of the chronic stress in the environment. Northern European precedents provide examples of how to re-evaluate the hospital typology to allow daylight, fresh air, view, and greater energy efficiency into these environments allowing for better working, healing and visiting experiences for staff, patients, and visitors. These indoor environmental quality factors coupled with better energy efficiency provide the opportunity for a new hospital typology that is better for people and better for the environment. |

|
Description:
WEBINAR: Millions of square feet of hospital floors are covered with resilient flooring materials. As more information becomes available about the health and environmental concerns associated with vinyl (or PVC), health care organizations are researching and beginning to purchase alternative products that meet the high performance needs of hospitals and medical office buildings. This presentation will provide an overview from the Healthy Building Network (HBN) of the health and environmental attributes of alternative resilient flooring materials. Kaiser Permanente and Hackensack University Medical Center, both health care systems that have sourced the alternatives, will share their experiences with installation and maintenance of the newer products. Lastly, they will talk about the intangible benefits that have come from using the alternative products. |

Description:
WEBINAR: Hospital additions often compromise functionality and efficiencies by focusing on short-term needs instead of overall facility implications. Our work at Salem Community Hospital will be presented as a revaluation of this growth model. Served partly by a central plant that blocked future development, and partly by rooftop units serving recent additions beyond the plant capacity, the hospital needed to reassess. In a two-phase undertaking, our team worked with SCH to implement intelligent, sustainable future expansion. |

Description:
WEBINAR: Sustainable healthcare facilities result from integrative design and building practices. Starting very early in the project process, an integrated team will clarify project sustainability goals, present the current status of available green healthcare practices, and identify potential sustainable building strategies. These strategies will be measured in terms of various metrics ranging from green building rating systems (e.g. USGBC LEED for Healthcare, GGHC) to individual strategy metrics (e.g. greenhouse gas accounting, energy use, water balance, etc) to financial metrics (e.g. sustainable return on investment) in order to make final sustainable strategy selections. Once agreement is reached on the selected strategies, these are implemented in the design and construction phases and thereafter, a lifecycle management program should be implemented to ensure that investment in the facility is secured. This presentation will present an integrative building process illustrated with case studies. |
