Viagra over-the-counter Alternatives – What are they?

Are there any other pills that work like Viagra?

It’s a common question. A lot of people want to know if there are safer alternatives to Viagra over the counter too. The answer to both these questions is yes.

Most of the pills that work in the same way as Viagra are prescription medications. Supplements that are sold over-the-counter as Viagra alternatives often work in a slightly different way than the medications but can still provide an equally uplifting experience.

Some of the over-the-counter Viagra alternatives are simple plant extracts. Horny goat weed and Korean are a couple of good examples. As is yohimbine, which comes from the bark of a tree.

Men who go for these options often do so via a personal recommendation. The same is true for other natural compounds that do similar things to Viagra such as L-arginine and DHEA.

There are also natural supplements that can help you cum more – or produce more semen volume.

L-arginine is an amino acid. DHEA is a steroid hormone precursor.

There are studies that show all these natural compounds can have a positive effect on erectile dysfunction (ED) but it’s important to be aware there have been no studies to compare the alternatives to the drug, head to head.

In addition to pills that provide these natural Viagra substitutes, there are also several good supplements that are designed to fight ED by providing carefully measured doses of several natural  ingredients.

Performer 8 and Viasil are two of the best. In addition to helping your penis become hard, they increase desire and give you more energy in bed.

Both options provide horny goat weed and ginseng. This powerful pairing is one of the reasons they work so well and each one has several more potent ingredients as well.

What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction is a condition that makes it difficult for men to get an erection that’s hard enough or long-lasting enough to allow them to have sex.

Men who have ED often find it difficult to talk about and may be hesitant about seeking professional help.

However, needing help to get hard is a common problem. The results of one study suggests 18.4% of men, aged 20 and over and living in the United States, experience ED at some point in their lives.

The condition becomes more common as you get older. For that reason, it’s often associated with age.

Some medical conditions, such as diabetes, can also cause men to have erection problems. In some cases, the difficulty can also be a side effect caused by drugs being used to treat a separate medical condition.

Buying Viagra: Things to Be Aware Of

Viagra is a brand name. The generic drug is called sildenafil citrate. The FDA only permits it to be distributed with a doctor’s prescription and doctors have to adhere to strict guidelines regarding the type of patient they can offer it to.

viagra blue pill

Also known as “the blue pill”, Viagra is an addictive drug that can cause potentially dangerous side effects. It can interact badly with other medications as well. You should never try to buy it illegally. Doing so can entail further danger.

When you see websites that appear to be selling Viagra without a prescription, you can never be sure about the products you see or what they contain.

You should also avoid other sources that claim to have over-the-counter Viagra. It’s one of the most counterfeited medications in the world.

Real Viagra is manufactured by Pfizer. When the company seized counterfeit pills it found amphetamines (speed), an antibiotic drug, and even printer ink inside them. (https://www.viagra.com/avoid-counterfeits)

Due to the demand for Viagra, some companies have been pushing to legalize the sale of erectile dysfunction drugs over-the-counter. In 2014, a French pharmaceutical firm tried to legalize an over-the-counter version of Cialis but had no success.

Even Pfizer has difficulties swaying the legislative bodies to act in their favor. In 2008, the company tried to legalize over-the-counter distribution of Viagra in the UK. The company withdrew its application after regulators raised concerns.

Many years later, Pfizer tried again and met with greater success when the MHRA allowed a Viagra product to be sold over-the-counter in Britain. Viagra Connect has been available via UK chemists since March 2018.

However, there are no efforts to achieve a similar goal in the United States.

Natural Viagra: The Drug-Free Alternatives

The name “natural Viagra” is often used for the supplements like Performer 8 and Viasil that you can buy over-the-counter and use instead of Viagra. Supplements of this type are also known as male enhancement products.

Male enhancement products is probably a more accurate way of describing them because, as well as getting you hard, they enhance fertility and virility.

These abilities are made possible by the best natural ingredients. They work in harmony with your body without causing side effects.

What Are the Safest over-the-counter Viagra Alternatives for Treating ED?

The safest over-the-counter Viagra alternatives generally contain one or more of the following ingredients:

  • Korean Ginseng: This ingredient is known by several names including Panax ginseng and Asian ginseng. Chinese herbalists have been using it as an aphrodisiac for thousands of years. The herb works on two levels. Firstly, it relaxes the blood vessels, making it easier for blood to enter and swell the penis. Secondly, it alleviates stress and anxiety. By doing so it prevents the two main psychological causes of ED.
  • Horny Goat Weed: Like Viagra, horny goat weed is a PDE5 inhibitor. PDE5 is an enzyme that prevents the blood vessels from relaxing, making it difficult for the penis to get enough blood. By inhibiting PDE5, Viagra and its natural alternatives help the blood vessels to relax and the penis to become hard.
  • Yohimbe/Yohimbine: Yohimbe is a species of tree. The ingredient it provides is yohimbine. It’s been a natural ED remedy for a very long time. A clinical review of seven studies shows yohimbe is a reasonable option for treating erectile dysfunction. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9649257/)
  • L-arginine: An amino acid that increases blood flow to the penis by boosting nitric oxide levels to cause vasodilation.
  • DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone): DHEA is a hormonal forerunner to testosterone–the male sex hormone. Boosting testosterone can increase sexual desire, increase stamina, and help you improve your overall sexual performance.

Should You Buy Viagra Online?

If your doctor has given you a prescription and you are not worried about side effects, there is no reason why you should not buy Viagra online. Just be sure to only deal with a legitimate online pharmacy. You need to be sure you are getting the real product instead of something laced with printer ink.

It’s also possible to buy the generic medication. Although it’s exactly the same as its branded counterpart, the generic version can be considerably cheaper to buy.

Blue Pill Potency Options & Considerations

Both Viagra and its generic version come in three different strengths: 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg.

Men using Viagra for the first time are often given the 50 mg option. Then, if it becomes necessary, the prescription strength is increased to 100 mg.

The prescribing physician generally tries to get a combination of maximum benefits and minimum side effects.

Viagra’s side effects are many and varied. Possible side effects include:

  • Headache
  • Stomach upset
  • Nausea
  • Flushing
  • Vision problems
  • Back pain
  • Runny nose
  • Nasal congestion
  • Muscular aches and pains
  • Dizziness
  • Prolonged, persistent erection

Over the Counter Viagra Alternatives – Summary

Although ED is a surprisingly common problem in men of all ages, there are many treatment options. Viagra and similar PDE5 inhibitors, such as Tadalafil (brand names Adcirca and Cialis) and  Vardenafil (brand names Levitra and Staxyn) are popular choices.

However, unlike safer over-the-counter Viagra alternatives, such as Performer 8 and Viasil, PDE5 inhibitors will only work in situations where ED is due to a physical cause. They won’t help if your ED is due to psychological factors. Nor will they boost libido or improve your sexual stamina.

PDE5 inhibitors only help you to become hard. They do not offer the same spectrum of benefits as the best male enhancement products.

Can Viagra alleviate ED? Absolutely but it may not be the right option for all men and it can be expensive to use. The same is true of similar PDE5 inhibitors. Fortunately, if you need them, there are over-the-counter alternatives you can use instead.
